Prima edizione. Il barone Dupin (1754-1873) si distinse per la sua attitudine alla matematica fin da giovanissimo. Fu ammesso al Politecnico nel 1801 e nel 1813 scrisse l'opera che presentiamo e che gli valse la stima e l'amicizia del celebre inventore della geometria descrittiva Gaspard Monge.
