Amico di Vincenzo Tizzani fu il poeta Giuseppe Gioachino Belli (Roma 1791-1863), che prima di morire decise di affidargli la copia manoscritta dei Sonetti con la preghiera di distruggerli; grazie alla lungimiranza anticonformista del religioso, venne conservato lo scritto e, successivamente alla morte del poeta, consegnato quasi integralmente al figlio Ciro Belli.
